The Dobermann Pinscher was first bred to guard and protect people and property in the 1800's. They are usually black and tan and are categorised in the Working Group. They can live for 11-13 years and have been used as assistance, police force and military dogs. They are intelligent and built for speed with amazing eyesight. They are a very elegant, yet powerful breed.
The Doberman Pinscher (or Dobermann) is a medium to large sized breed of Dog that is squarely built, muscular and elegant. It is a German breed and was originally developed in 1890. They were first bred as guard Dogs by a tax collector called Louis Dobermann who seeked protection whilst on duty. They are most commonly seen in black and tan, but they can also come in brown and tan, blue and tan, fawn and even albino. Their tails are traditionally docked short and their ears may be cropped for shows. They are described as Intelligent, Alert, Obedient, Loyal, Energetic and Fearless. They can grow to between 24 and 28 inches in height and weigh between 66 and 88 pounds. Although at first glance they may look intimidating, this breed makes an excellent pet and loyal companion.
A doberman is simply just a dog with, usually a black and brown tannish short coat. it hardly needs any grooming and it also has two spots on its forehead and underbelly. Although these dogs are big and may seem friendly enough they are often agressive.
The Doberman Pinscher is a medium sized, squarely built dog with a compact muscular body. The head is long and when viewed from the side looks like a blunt wedge. The top of the skull is flat, and turns into the muzzle with a slight stop. The color of the nose depends on the color of the dog's coat, black on black dogs, dark brown on red dogs, dark gray on blue dogs, dark tan on fawn dogs and pink on white dogs. The teeth meet in a scissors bite. The color of the almond shaped eyes is various shades of brown, depending on the coat color of the dog. The ears are usually cropped to stand erect (cut at the age of about 12 weeks). The pup's ears have to be taped for a couple of months to make them stand up. A lot of breeders are starting to leave the pup's ears natural. If left natural they develop ears somewhat like a hound. The tail is usually docked at the age of 3 days. If the tail is not docked it grows a tail somewhat like a hound. Note: cropping ears and docking tails is illegal in Europe. The chest is broad and the legs are perfectly straight. Dewclaws are sometimes removed. The short, hard, thick coat lies flat. Sometimes there is an invisible gray undercoat on the neck. The coat comes in black, black with tan markings, blue-gray, red, fawn and white. When markings appear they are above each eye, on the muzzle, throat, forechest, legs, feet and on the tail. There is also a solid white color. While white markings are considered a fault in some clubs, in others it is accepted.

The Doberman or Dobermann is a German breed developed at the end of the last century. It is a guarding dog that was developed not just for property but more accurately for personal protection. Perhaps this is why these dogs become so attached to their owners. They became important to the US Marines during the second world war and eventually became the official dog of the US Marines. The breed saw a marked popularity in the last 50 years... even though they are the favourite "bad guy" dog in Hollywood. Ranked in the top 5 for intelligence and trainability, these dogs are both graceful and athletic, but extremely loyal and smart.
