Well the Northern mountains are of great importance to Pakistan: following are some reasons why:-

  • They connect Pakistan and China via the Khunjrab pass and the Karakorum highway.
  • They have always been and are acting as a barrier defending Pakistan from foreign invasions and the cold Siberian winds, which would have had a negative effect on Pakistan's temperature.
  • Their great scenic beauty attracts tourists from all over the world. This fact further promotes tourism as an economic activity in Pakistan.
  • The glaciers present in these mountain ranges on melting are a great source of water.
  • These mountains are rich in minerals which further promote mining.
  • These maountain ranges are also a source of forests which have trees with strong barks. Inturn they are a great use for construction purposes.
  • Rivers in these ranges are rich in fish and are a home to many endangered species like the blind Indus dolphin.

Farming,rich minerals can be used in industries,tourism gives money to local people,water is good for fishing,western mountains have historical importance from their passes,the high mountains act like borders and keep western depression from reaching central pakistan!

NORTHERN MOUNTAINS OF PAKISTAN:

Northern areas include the Karakorum ranges, the Himalaya and Hindu kush range.

The average height of the mountains in the northern area is average 6000 meter

The mountains situated in the northern are the second highest in the world.

The precipitation is mainly in the form of snow beause of the high altitude. In the upper region of these valleys, there are glaciers instead of river, the severe climate makes the Karakorum extremely in hospitable so this region has a low population density.

WESTERN MOUNTAINS OF PAKISTAN

Western areas include safedkoh range, wazirastan range, Sukeman and Kirthar range.

It is dotted with springs and number of lime stone ridges. With the help of irrigation, the valley is farmed. Wheat, rice, and sugar cane are cultivated there.

The valleys are located between the rivers. They lies in the highly, minarlised zone.
