The state has not created a law regarding this. Is the individual responsible? Can they handle an emergency without freaking out? Do they know who to contact? Most authorities agree that a 12 or 13 year old can take care of younger kids, not infants or toddlers, for a short period of time during the daylight.
by law it is 13 years old, to my understaning that applies to all other states as well California does not have a law on babysitters at this point. Only Illinois and Maryland have actually passed a law. It really depends upon whether the child is knowledgable on how to handle an emergency and feels safe.
First you got to study the basics on being a nanny and you have to be at the age of 20 at least to start babysitting children.
The age you should be when you want to babysit is 12 or 13 and older. if you are immature, you need to be at least at the age of 15 to babysit.

You should be thirteen but you can slide at the age of 12
there is not a legal age for babysitting it is up to the parents and what the feel comfortable with
I'm pretty sure there is no legal age but it is up to the parents of the kid(s) how old they want their babysitter to be
11 or 12 the younger the child the older the sitter!!
16 is the minimum working age. There is no legal minimum age for babysitting. (The babysitter's level of maturity and competence are the mainattributes a parent should consider)
The age of emancipation is 18 in California.
The age normally is around 12 for baby sitting so 12...
Legal limit under age of 21 in California
The legal age is 18
13 is the Legal Babysitting age for non-family members. Please see related link.
