The longest town name and longest railway station name in Britain is that of a Welsh town named Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. The name, which is also the longest domain name in the world, translates as: 'St Mary's church in the hollow of the white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the church of St Tysilio of the red cave'.

Originally the town was called Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll, which means 'The Mary church by the pool near the white hazels', but was renamed in the 19th Century to try and encourage trains and tourists. The new name was apparently invented by a cobbler from Menai Bridge.

Note: WikiAnswers is apparently cutting short the name, so below is the name split up:

Llanfair pwllgwyngyll gogerych wyrndrobwll llantysiliogogogoch

Take out the spaces for the complete name.
