Article III, Section 1 of the United States Constitution establishes the Judicial Branch of the government. The job of the Judicial Branch is to interpret the laws of the US. The Article only establishes the Supreme Court and makes it the highest court in the government. It leaves the creation of the other federal courts to congress.

Article III, section 1 refers to the portion of the US Constitution dealing with creation of Federal courts, including the Supreme Court, and delineating rules for tenure and salary:

Section 1. The judicial Power of the United States, shall be vested in one supreme Court, and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. The Judges, both of the supreme and inferior Courts, shall hold their Offices during good Behavior, and shall, at stated Times, receive for their Services a Compensation which shall not be diminished during their Continuance in Office.

Other sections of Article III deal with the judicial powers and limitations accorded thereto, such as jurisdiction; and the rights of the people thereunder, such as right to a jury trial.

Section 3. Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.

The Congress shall have power to declare the punishment of treason, but no attainder of treason shall work corruption of blood, or forfeiture except during the life of the person attainted.

basically, don't help the enemies of the us. or claim war against the US. and if you do to be convicted two people must witness it. and Congress gets to choose your punishment. as for the last part "but no attainder of treason shall work corruption of blood, or forfeiture except during the life of the person attainted." i am not sure

The paragraph establishes that the states, along with or through Congress, control the formation and admission of new states, the division of existing states, or the combining of existing states.

"New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress."

The last part means that only a state legislature, with the approval of Congress, may choose to divide its state, or to join with another state. The only time this actually occurred was the formation of West Virginia during the Civil War.

Congress must also approve the borders of all new states. In 1906, Congress denied the Indian Territory's application as the all-Indian state of "Sequoyah," requiring that the new state include the Oklahoma Territory as well.

Was Slavery permitted under the original constitution?

Yes. The Articles of Confederation do not mention slavery in any way. This absence does not mean slavery was forbidden; rather, since there was no express ban of slavery under the Articles, slavery was indeed permitted in the U.S. under these statutes. Similarly the original Constitution does not mention slavery. Rather, in Article I, section 2, clause c, slaves are indicated in the phrase "and excluding Indians not taxed, three-fifths of all other persons." while in Article I, section 9, clause a, Congress is forbidden to an the slave trade until 1808 at the earliest. Similarly article IV, section 2, clause c, established the first fugitive slave ordinance under the new Constitution.
