...and a subtle aspect:Disingenuousness is deliberately giving the false impression of simple frankness. The above is correct, but in a sense it is what you are not doing when being disingenuous.

An example might help. Years ago I worked for the General Dynamics computer facility that houses and maintains all the computers/software for Electric Boat, the submarine manufacturers in Connecticut. Our offices were several miles from the shipyard. We got picketed one day by protesters; they blocked the entrances to our parking lots, and caused quite a disruption.

A co-worker was distraught by this and told a reporter: "...But we aren't building the nuclear subs!..." I found this disingenuous.
