In this sense, "holy" means "set apart" as in "consecrated to God".. Some Type A personalities would work all the time if they could. God established this day to force people to rest so they wouldn't work themselves to death. Also to establish a day of worship to the Lord.

Holy or hagios is defined by Strong's as; from hagos (an awful thing) (compare 53, 2282); sacred (physically, pure, morally blameless or religious, ceremonially, consecrated):--(most) holy (one, thing), saint. The Church in this instance is the universal body of believers made up of all people who have been called by the Holy Spirit and who then accepted Jesus Christ into their hearts. When Jesus comes into your heart, he declairs you blameless and holy crediting your faith as righteousness.

In Biblical Hebrew, the word is derived from a term meaning "separate." In worship, "holy" applies to that which is separated from common use, or held sacred. Holiness also strongly conveys the idea of cleanness and purity. To be holy, we must maintain physical, mental, moral, and spiritual cleanness.
