"Where the Dead Men Lie" by Barcroft Boake is a poem that reflects on the harsh and unforgiving Australian outback. It describes the loneliness and desolation of the landscape where the bodies of men who have died while attempting to tame the land now lie. The poem conveys a sense of foreboding and serves as a reminder of the dangers and sacrifices involved in colonial settlement.

The poem may be about a man who is seeing all the dangers of the world, all the people dying from the dangers, all the people committing homicide, and maybe he is a murderer, too. He's seeing the spirits of dead people, maybe even zombie like things, and regretting what he did. I wouldn't completely trust my opinion though, this is only from a 12 year old's point of view, someone with much more knowledge might read it and know what it's about.

Why is the relationship between a poem's content so important?

Because it can add meaning if you look at comparisons within a poem. For instance, in Ignatow's _Rescue The Dead_ the last line is "rescue the dead" ... but you wouldn't know what that line really meant unless you had observed what the poet said about what dead was and what alive was earlier in the poem.
