An orthodontist's income can vary, but most start in the $150,000 to $200,000 range. Good location and good practices can mean $400,000 to $500,000 easily.

Remember, braces are cash only. Most orthodontists do not accept any type of insurance. Novelty and cosmetics pay well. Factor in fewer working days per week and low stress, orthodontists have the best paying occupation in the healthcare arena even if braces are not considered vital to healthcare.

it approximately $20-30K a month. More if you're a parter in a prestigious practice. My cousin is 32 years old, has been an orthodontist for 7 years and has had his own private practice for the past 5 years. Last year, he netted approximately $970K. He lives in a $1.4 million home in Orange County, CA and drives a Mercedes SL65 AMG, a Lamborghini Gallardo and a Range Rover. His wife does very well also. She is a Diagnostic Radiologist and is a partner at a prestigious medical imaging center. She netted approximately $550K last year. So together, you're talking about over $1.5 million, so they're doing OK.

that's pretty impressive since it takes 10-11 yrs to complete all the schooling for an orthodontest. how'd he pull it off in 7 years? that's even less than a dentist would have to go to school.?

Your cousin is 32 and has been an Ortho for 7 years? So he finished his ortho residency at 25 years old, graduated from dental school 22-23 years old which means he started dental school at 18 to 19 years old. BS, I don't think we can believe anything this guy says. There is a huge range of earnings among Orthos. Mostly it depends on where you live. In AK you can net close to a million (annually) and in UT you may net 150,000. It also depends on how much you work and the relationship you have with the local dentists. There are many variables.
