Galen Marek, codenamed Starkiller, a Dark Side Adept who was selected by Darth Vader to help him during the Great Jedi Purge. He was selected because he had the greatest Force Potential ever (even more powerful than the Emperor and even Anakin in his prime). He was deceived several times by Vader and then used by him to flush out the Emperor's enemies. The whole thing backfired because Galen ended up organizing what would eventually become the Rebel Alliance. The symbol for the Rebel Alliance is the Marek family crest.

name: galen marek. species: human. father: kento marek. found by Vader on kashyyyk during an imperial assault. kento had been killed by Vader, and galen was too young to know what had happened. galen was actually grateful to Vader; no doubt Vader told the boy a lie about his father. galen was Vader's slave, and he formed the Rebellion at Vader's command--the army would distract palpatine so palpy wouldn't know that Vader had an apprentice. galen started to warm to his newfound companions (the Rebels), however, and fought palpy and Vader. he lost and was killed, but before dying he had had the choice of re-embracing the dark side or committing to light (and death). galen sacrificed himself, rejecting the dark side once and for all.

the Emperor orders Vader to kill him Starkiller, the secret apprentice, defeats Vader and then confronts the Emperor in order to save his friends. He eventually ends up sacrificing himself to save his friends and the Rebel Alliance. However the story doesn't end there they recently announced a sequel to The Force Unleashed where Starkiller is some how still alive.

It's hard to give a definitive answer but Darth Vader took the Apprentice when he was a little boy. He could not have been older than 2 or 3 at the time. 15 years after he was taken, his training was completed and he started his quest for the Jedi. Therefore, he must at least be 17 and at the oldest he is 20. Somewhere in that frame but 18 or 19 would have to be my estimation.
