The Andromeda galaxy is 2.6 million light years away.

Thats 1.52840995 × 1019 miles away!

That is, travelling at the speed of light, it would take YOU 2.6 million years to get there.

The Canis major dwarf Galaxy is about 42,000 light years from the and a mere 25,000 light years from us (which puts it closer to us than the center of our own galaxy, which is 30,000 light years away from the galactic center solar System).

The Earth is inside the Milky Way Galaxy. The closest other known galaxies are the two "clouds of Magellan", which are small galaxies that orbit the Milky way. The closest other large galaxy, about the size of the Milky Way, is the Andromeda Galaxy.

Andromeda is the nearest galaxy to Earth.

Answer:

We are in the Milky Way galaxy which makes it closest to Earth. After that we have the dwarf galaxies Canis Major Dwarf and the Sagittarius Dwarf Sphr SagDEG. The nearest major galaxy would be the Large Magellanic Cloud.

The Canis major dwarf Galaxy is about 42,000 light years from the and a mere 25,000 light years from us (which puts it closer to us than the center of our own galaxy, which is 30,000 light years away from the galactic center solar System).

The Andromeda galaxy.

Andromeda is not the closest galaxy to ours. It is one of the closest large galaxies. As far as "I" have read the closes is the Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy followed by the Sagittarius Dwarf Elliptical galaxy... There are also MANY others that are closer than Andromeda.

The definition of the Solar System is our galaxy. The word solar comes from the word sun. So I'd have to say galaxies are bigger than solar systems, and OUR solar system is smaller than galaxies because there are many galaxies a lot bigger than the galaxy we live in. We have yet to discover in the big universe.

There is only one known universe - the one we inhabit. Theoretically, there could be many other universes in what is sometimes called the 'multiverse', but the distances involved mean we will probably never know. Galaxies are the largest substantial groupings within a universe.

Our galaxy is the Miky Way.

The nearest galaxy outside the Milky Way, that is known today, is the Canis Major dwarf galaxy. Constellations are the largest substantial groupings within a galaxy

The nearest constellation is Centaurus. The nearest star is the Sun.

The nearest star outside the solar system is Proxima Centauri.

The smallest star known is OGLE-TR-122b is estimated to have a radius around 0.12 solar radii, or around 20% larger than Jupiter's

The lower limit for a red dwarf star is about 0.075 times the mass of the Sun. Below that, you would have a "brown dwarf", which is no longer considered a star, since they won't get hot enough to fuse normal hydrogen (hydrogen-1).

Andromeda is the closest spiral galaxy. It is about 2.5 million light years from the Milky Way. There are dwarf galaxies that are closer, such as the Magellanic Clouds. The Large Magellanic Cloud is only 170,000 light years from us.

The closest galaxy to Earth is of course the one we are in - the Milky Way, which has several dwarf galaxies in orbit around it considered part of the local group. The nearest to earth is the Canis Major Overdensiy (or galaxy) at about 25,000 lght years distance, although its status as a galaxy is in dispute. The next nearest is the Sagitarius dwarf elliptical galaxy at about 70,000 light years away.

There are many other dwarf galaxies in orbit around the Milky Way, including the Magellanic Clouds. The closest galaxy not in orbit around us is currenly believed to be the MGC1 cluster - and the next nearest, which orbits our sister galaxy Andromeda, is NGC185.

The nearest galaxy to the Milky Way is the dwarf galaxy, Canis Major Dwarf, at only 42,000 light-years from Earth and only 25,000 light-years away from our solar system. This galaxy is actually closer to us than we are to the center of our own galaxy. It is in the process of being eaten by the Milky Way.

However, the closest major galaxy is the spiral galaxy, Andromeda. Andromeda is around 2.5 million light years away and hurling towards us at breakneck speed. The Milky Way and Andromeda will eventually run into each other and swirl around each other for a few million years before merging into one massive galaxy. This event will take place 2-3 billion years from now.

What is the relationship between the milky way galaxy and Andromeda?

They are two separate, independent, rather large, neighboring galaxies, situated about2.24 million light years apart. Each is the other's nearest neighbor galaxy.

What is the nearest neighbor of solar system?

Our nearest planetary neighbor to Earth would be Venus, (which is closer than Mars orbiting further away from the Sun). Venus is sometimes referred to as our sister planet, being the most similar in size to Earth. The nearest stellar neighbor to our solar system is Proxima Centauri, a red dwarf not visible to the naked eye, a little over 4 light years away. Close to it, the nearest visible stellar neighbor to us is the binary star Alpha Centauri. The nearest galaxy to us is likely the Canis Major overdensity about 25,000 light years from us, although its status is somewhat disputed. An even closer, unusualy globular cluster Omega Centauri at only 15,000 light years distance might be a dwarf galaxy.
