There is a formula to calculate the mass percent composition (which can be found in your reference table T for chemistry students)
mass of element
----------------------- X 100
gram-formula mass
First of all you need to find the gram formula mass:
2 N atoms= 2(14.0 amu) = 28.0 amu
6 O atoms= 6(16.0 amu)= 96.0 amu
then add together
124 amu
Then plug in with the formula:
(2X 14)
----------- X 100% = 22.58% = % Nitrogen
124 amu
To check to make sure the answer is correct the percentages of the individual elements must addd up to 100%. So you would then need to find the % oxygen. which is 77.41%. So in this case 77.41%
+ 22.58%
is 99.99% which can be rounded to 100% so in this case the answer is correct.
Nitrogen Dioxide, NO2
Relative molar mass, Mr = 14.0 +16.0 x 2
= 46.0 g/mol
Percent composition oxygen = 32.0/46.0 x 100
= 69.6%
Percent composition nitrogen = 14.0/46.0 x 100 (or 100 - 69.6)
= 30.4%
do you mean the percentage by mass of nitrogen or oxygen in nitrogen oxide?
First work out the mass of one mole of nitrogen oxide
Then work out the mass of the number of moles of nitrogen / oxygen in one mole of nitrogen oxide
Divide this by the mass of one mole of nitrogen oxide and then multiply by 100.
Whats the percent composition of N2O?
Nitrogen dioxide NO2 Nitrogen(IV) oxide
Magnesium nitride (Mg3N2) has a higher percentage composition of magnesium than magnesium oxide (MgO) does. The percentage composition of magnesium in magnesium nitride is 72.2% and the percentage composition of magnesium in magnesium oxide is 60.3%.
Nitrogen oxide can refer to a binary compound of oxygen and nitrogen, or a mixture of such compounds.
Red soil is rich in iron oxide, but deficient in nitrogen and lime. Their chemical composition generally includes non-soluble material 90.47%, iron 3.61%, aluminium 2.92%, organic matter 1.01%, magnesium 0.70%, lime 0.56%, carbon-di-oxide 0.30%, potash 0.24%, soda 0.12%, phophorus 0.09% and nitrogen 0.08%.
Nitrous oxide is N2O.
The percent composition of nitrous oxide is: - N: 63,649 % - O: 36,351 %
The oxide N2O3 has a lower percent of mass nitrogen.
NO is the simplest oxide of nitrogen.
It is the molecular compound Nitric Oxide (not Nitrous Oxide)
Nitrogen has many oxides like Nitrogen dioxide, Nitrous oxide, etc. Nitrogen monoxide refers to a single compound with formula NO. Whereas Nitrogen oxide can refer any higher or lower oxide of nitrogen. It can refer to Nitrous oxide, Nitric oxide, Dinitrogen trioxide, etc.
Nitrogen oxide is composed of the elements, nitrogen and oxygen.
Nitrogen(IV) oxide is N2O4.
Nitrogen(IV) oxide is N2O4.
Nitrogen oxide is released from automobiles and mainly from factories.
