The church, the collective called-out-ones of God, is symbolic of the "mother" of God's children. Collectively, they are His wife... individually, they are each a developing fetus within her.

The church should be a nurturing mother to her Husband's children... loving them, feeding them with the proper nourishment for sustained growth and healthy development in Godly character and obedience to His laws. The food is provided through the "Bread of Life"... the Word of God, the understanding of which is revealed through the "umbilical cord" of the Holy Spirit.

They are struggling to be born and are waiting for Jesus Christ to "deliver" them.
