My thought is the civil war was fought is for economic reasons. The Southerners relied on the slaves to do much , if not all, of their work. Plus of course there was the slave trade This was a major part of the economic life of the deep South. With slaves gone much of the South's economy would be greatly diminished. The Southerners felt they couldn't tolerate that.

∙ 15y agoHeavy taxation on southern states from the north, states rights. Slavery actually played a very small role despite popular belief.. The north had slaves as well.
