Very simply put.

The tides are an effect of the moons gravity on our oceans and seas. The earth rotates. The gravitational affect of the moon affects different parts of the ocean at different times of the 'day'.

Moon and Sun line up at New Moon and Full Moon to give especially high tides.

How does the phases of the moon affect the tides at sea?

the phases of the moon don't affect tides. Tides are caused by the moon's gravity, the moon is always at the same distance from Earth. Sun also causes the tides. so if the sun and the moon are directed in the same place at Earth extra high tides occur.

What are between high and low tides?

medium tides

Where is the moon when high tides occur?

the moon is at new or full moon phases in other words between earth and sun, or 'behind' earth. This is because the gravitational pull works with the sun.

Can you relate the phases of the moon to the occurrence of high and low tides?

Only spring and neap tides. The normal day to day tides are brought about by the position of the moon in relation to the earth as the earth rotates 'beneath' it

What moon phases experience the least change in tides?

First quarter and last quarter. They cause neap tides which are neither very high nor very low.

How often do high tides shift to low tides?

6 hours between peaks

What types of tides occur at new moons and full moons?

When the Sun, Earth and Moon are nearly lined up, the Sun and Moon's gravitational effects on tides are amplified slightly, causing higher-than-average 'spring tides". This happens at the new and full moon phases. When the Moon is at right angles to the Sun-Earth line, at the first and third quarter moon phases, we have lower-than-average "neap" tides.

How are low tides different from High tides?

In high tides areas, the water level is higher the average sea level. In areas between high tides, low tides from. In low tide areas, the water level is lower than average sea level.

Spring tides are unusually high and unusually low tides that occur when the moon earth and sun are all in line - during which moon phases do spring tides occur?

The sun and the moon's gravity pull in the same direction .

What tide forms when water is drawn away from the area between high tides?

Tidal pools are formed when water is drawn away from an area between high tides.

What is the difference between TIMING OF low and high tides and why?

the moon

What are extreme tides called?

Extra high tides are called spring tides and extra low tides are called neap tides ********************************************* Spring high tide is a tide that is very high and reaches high up the beach. Spring low tide is a tide that is very low and goes far down the beach. Neap tides are the high and low water tides that range over the beach between the Spring tide marks.
