The 'rise of Nazism' refers to the steady acquisition of power in Germany of the 1920s and 1930s by the 'Nazi Party' -- a group of right-wing activists led by Adolph Hitler. The Nazis were not initially influential in Germany; however, by the end of 1933 they had acquired absolute power in their country and were soon setting their sights on expanding their power into the rest of Europe.

The rise of the Nazis to power in Germany occurred gradually, over the course of many years. In the 1920s and early 1930s, through a tireless effort of public speaking, private collaborations, and intimidation of opponents that included violence and death, the Nazis became so influential that their leader, Hitler, was finally invited to serve as Chancellor of the German government. Once in power, Hitler and his associates utilized the same methods to gain absolute control of the country.
