A 1964 Mexican Peso is 10% silver (although mostly on the outside - the middle of the coin has basically no silver at all) and contains 0.0514 troy ounces of silver (about 65 US cents worth). Numismatically, the coin is worth about US$0.85 in Extremely Fine condition (very little wear) and about US$2.00 in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
The 1953 5 Peso is 72% silver and contains .6431 of an ounce of silver. There was no Mexican 1 Peso dated 1953.

You should ask some 17 dollars for it.
I have a 1948 Mexican Cinco (5) Peso piece and on the Face side of the coin it reads "30 Gramos Ley 0.9000 Mo". I take that to mean 90% pure silver for a total of 27 grams of pure silver.
If it says "Ley 999" somewhere over its face, it should have an ounce of 99.9% pure silver.
If it says "Ley 999" somehwere over its face, it should have an ounce of 99.9% pure silver.
It's currently worth at least $5 for its silver content.
Around $5.88 for its silver content. These were made in large quantities and therefore are only worth their metal value.
