Standard Time is based on the length of a day on Earth. That is 24 hours. The Earth is represented as a circle, and a circle by definition has 360 degrees in it. If you divide 24 into 360 you get 15. Each time zone is 15 degrees apart from the next one. That way the zones are equally spread apart throughout the world.
