Fifty Shades of Grey is a story that follows the burgeoning relationship between Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. Anastasia meets Christian, a young entrepreneur and the CEO of Grey Enterprise Holdings Inc., while interviewing him for her college's student paper. They are magnetically attracted to each other and start to embark on a passionate relationship. Their "agreement" soon faces hardship when Ana learns of Grey's erotic tastes and is forced to face his dark desires and controlling issues. She needs to figure out if this is the lifestyle she is destined for, or if she should get out before it is too late.

Fifty Shades of Grey is a 2011 erotic novel by British author E. L. James. Set largely in Seattle, it is the first installment in a trilogy that traces the deepening relationship between a college graduate, Anastasia Steele, and a young business magnate, Christian Grey. It is notable for its explicitly erotic scenes featuring elements of sexual practices involving bondage/discipline, dominance/submission, sadism/masochism (BDSM).

The second and third volumes are titled Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, respectively. Fifty Shades of Grey has topped best-seller lists around the world, including the United Kingdom and the United States. The series has sold 40 million copies worldwide, with book rights having been sold in 37 countries, and set the record as the fastest-selling paperback of all time, surpassing the Harry Potter series. Critical reception of the novel has been mixed.

It's a very gripping trilogy the characters have depth and yes there is plenty of sex in it but it's not just about that. Two people fall in love with each other and they have there own baggage to bring to the relationship it's just Christian Grey has more than the normal person. It's a very good read.

There are actually a few reasons. They're telling you that everything is not just right or wrong, hence black or white. There are many shades of gray in between. This symbolizes the different personas of Christian Grey.

In Book one it's an inside Joke between the two main characters. Ana and Christian he struggles with having a "normal hearts and flowers" relationship and Christian calls himself "50 shades of fu*ked up" and his name is Christian Grey hence the "50 shades of grey." You learn more about why he is the way his in book 3.

The main character's name is Christian Grey. He often tells Anastasia that he is fifty shades of f***ed up. She begins referring to him as Fifty or Fifty Shades. That's where we get the title Fifty Shades of Grey.

The hype of Fifty Shades of Grey is mainly about two things - the sex and the BDSM relationship. While a dominant/submissive relationship is certainly nothing new, this is the first time that such a relationship has ever been portrayed in a mainstream movie. In addition, there are very explicit sex scenes in the movie that have to do with bondange, dominance, and submission (and there are many more in the book).

Fifty Shades Freed focuses on two things. The first is the newly married relationship of Ana and Christian. The second is the fact that there is someone out to get Christian as we learn early on in the book. Also, we are still dealing with Elena (a.k.a. Mrs. Robinson) who continues to cause friction for our dynamic duo.
