The history of British monarchs is fascinating. The current "dynasty" began with the Hanoverian line beginning with:
King George l 1714-1727
King George ll 1727- 1760
King George lll 1760-1820
King George lV 1820-1830
King William lV 1830-1837
William IV having no heirs, the British crown passed in 1837 to Victoria, a grand daughter of George lll. Now in Hanover no woman could rule, and an uncle of Victoria inherited. Though the British family has continued in direct descent from George I, it dropped the title of Hanoverian and now is known as the House of Windsor. From 1877 to 1947 the British rulers bore the additional title of Emperors of India.
Victoria 1837-1901
Edward VII 1901-1910
George V 1910- 1936
George VI 1936-1952
Elizabeth II 1952 to the present.
