Geckos are a symbol of change such as transformation, death and rebirth. Spiritually and symbolically geckos mean much the same from one culture to another and although superstitions can vary, geckos often have profound, mystical and important rolls to play in various indigenous societies. Because they are a twilight and night creature their role is that of the dream keepers and shapeshifters. The gecko is believed to be an ancestral spirit by many Pacific peoples. It is the "grand totem" of the people of New Caledonia. The gecko lizard is one of the few reptiles that have a voice and in Hawaii the Gecko's chirp is often taken as an affirmation of spiritual significance. From Hawaii to the Zuni tribe of New Mexico, the Gecko is a symbol of good luck.
There is common lore about the gecko, Latin spelling gekko, that involve luck, regrowth and life in general. Some cultures, like the Polynesians, saw the gecko with fear and awe. They believed that if the gecko "laughed" at you, the bobbing motion associated with this lizard, then it was a bad omen. It was a common tribal tattoo within their culture as well.
Other symbolisms include the release and regeneration of the gecko's tail. This is representative of the self preservation and regrowth people go through after trials. The traditional gecko circle represents a cyclical nature of life.
Personally, I find the creature to be very beautiful and highly interesting. I am considering a gecko tattoo on my foot (or feet). Not necessarily due to any symbolism but solely due to the fact that they amuse me.

Conservation, agility, dreaming, renewal, transformation, ancient energy. Live geckos were kept to warn of the presence of poisonous snakes. Lucky charms carved in their likeness were said to preserve eyesight and worn by pregnant women to insure a safe delivery of a happy healthy child. In the Phillipines, you were considered very blessed if one lived in your bedroom. They would run around on the ceiling catching bugs, saving yourself from the hungry, nasty bites. If you had two in your room, you were in deed held in awe, double blessed. The show was also a Ballet, they are truly amazing, it was rare for one to fall, but I had one fall on my foot one night! (Interesting idea, tattoo on foot.) Great Info. again.

I read somewhere that geckos symbolized good luck. Or sometimes looking back at the past while focusing on the future too.

They have the same name, but their color might be different. The spots and striped might be at their tail, the whole body, or the head. Their skin colors can be yellow, pinkish-orange, and that's all i know. :D

The crested gecko is a species of gecko native to southern New Caledonia. This creatures are also known as New Caledonian Crested Gecko, Guichenot's Giant Gecko or Eyelash Gecko.
