Tetralogy of Fallot is called this because it is a congenital cardiac defect that consists of four cardiac defects. Fallot is the last name of the physician that named the condition. Tet means four. The four defects are right ventricular hypertrophy, ventricular septal defect, displaced aorta, and pulmanary valve stenosis.
Tetralogy of Fallot:
- Commonest CCHD in children above 2 years of age.
- Prevalence: 1/2000 live birth
- Tetralogy of Fallot is the result of unequal division of the conus.
- 4 defects co-exist:
1) PS - Narrower right ventricle outflow region
2) VSD - Defect in the interventricular septum
3) Overriding Aorta - An aorta that overrides directly above the
septal defect
4) RVH - The right ventricular wall hypertrophies.
- If not treated, the mortality rate is 95% by age 40.
- Treatment is typically done at age 6-12 months.
Babies with tetralogy of Fallot are blue at birth (cyanosis ). Sometimes the blue color appears only when they cry. They also have detectable heart murmurs. Infants with mild forms can have surgery postponed until they are older.

I'm not sure how many children with tetralogy of fallot have digeorge however my son has tetralogy of fallot repaired in 2006. He also has a partial deletion of chromosome 22 DiGeorge Syndrome. He is doing really well and his speech/articulation is emerging.
