No specific time period is given in "Wicked."

Specifically, the musical is based upon the novel "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" by author Gregory Maguire (b. June 9, 1954) and the American fairy tale "The Wizard of Oz" by Oz series originator Lyman Frank Baum (May 15, 1856 - May 6, 1919). No time period is mentioned in either one of these publications. But Maguire's novel is intended as a prequel to Baum's story, and the illustrations in Baum's book have a distinctly 19th-century flair to them.

The place is Oz. Duh. The time is apparently 20 or so years before Dorothy arrives, as the musical starts with the birth of Elphaba (who will one day be the Wicked Witch) and continues to follow her through school. She then goes to work for the Wizard, and when she discovers he is not what everyone thinks he is.......

The running time for 'Wicked' is 2 hours 30 minutes. Additionally, there's a 15-minute intermission. Act I lasts 1 hour 30 minutes. Act II is a little less than 1 hour. So the total time in the theatre is 2 hours 45 minutes.
