There is no precise use for yoga. It helps stretch our muscles. It helps us think straighter, and it can help us lose weight.

Yoga helps the body in multiple ways. It helps with flexibility, stamina, strength and balance. This isn't all the benefits that yoga offers, but these are the more obvious benefits. Yoga also helps the body and mind through meditation and it's breathing exercises. It's one of those practices that works for nearly everyone and can be practiced at any time in the day.

Flexibility is increased through poses that stretch the body, which many of them do.

Stamina simply through the fact that many people practice yoga for an hour at a time. Since yoga is both an exercise and a practice, some people need use yoga to build up body stamina because in some types of yoga, you'll need to hold poses for up to eight to ten long breaths.

Strength can be built up through nearly all of yoga poses. Some of these include Crane/Crow, Downward Dog, Warrior 1-3, Reverse Warrior. Yoga is a good exercise/practice to build up strength and also to tone the body.

Balance is achieve through balance poses such as Tree and much of the Moon Salutation.

the purpose of yoga is to relax yourself and be calm when you are stressed out. it also is good for your muscles. even if it isn't a sport, its still getting all of your energy out so you don't freak when your angry and you don't hurt yourself because they teach you how to stretch correctly.

Yoga has always been a huge part of my exercise routine - I hit the gym to build muscle, then do stretching/yoga to connect/build the tissue between my muscles.

I do a lot of Jiu Jitsu - it is really funny watching the big meat-head guys who don't stretch get manhandled by the smaller, more flexible guys.
