The only two British gold coins to be minted in 1786 were the Guinea and the Half-Guinea.

A British 1786 gold Guinea (George III), circulated but still in good condition, might fetch anything from £275 to £850 GBP.

A British 1786 gold Half-Guinea (George III), circulated but still in good condition, might fetch anything from £160 to £600 GBP.

The values quoted are the best possible for the best specimens in their grades, but may be significantly lower due to varying demand for the coin and the prevailing economic climate. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.

Your coin is either a Guinea or a Half-Guinea. They are almost identical in appearance except for size, the Guinea being larger at 24mm. They are referred to as "Spade Guineas" due to the spade shaped shield on the reverse.

A British 1788 22 carat Guinea (George III), circulated but still in good condition, might fetch anything from £225 to £750 GBP.

A British 1788 22 carat Half-Guinea (George III), circulated but still in good condition, might fetch anything from £150 to £550 GBP.

A reputable coin dealer will be able to assist with proper identification and give a more accurate valuation.
