U.S. coins never carry the image of a president while they are in office. JFK's picture wasn't put on the half dollar until after his death. The first ones are dated 1964.
Please check again and post a new question with the coin's date and design. If the date is in fact 1963 your coin carries a picture of BEN FRANKLIN who was much older and MUCH balder than JFK.
Since Kennedy half dollars weren't minted until 1964, a 1963 coin would be quite extraordinary. Both 1963 Franklin half dollars and 1964 Kennedy half dollars are composed of 90% silver and weigh about 0.36 troy ounces. With silver at $35 (as of 2011), that equates to a "melt value" of about $13. Neither of the abovementioned coins are rare, so unless they were uncirculated or better, neither would be worth much more than that.No 1963 Kennedy half dollars exist. 1963 is the last year of the Franklin half dollar. 1964 is the first year for Kennedy.
Try again. The Kennedy half dollar wasn't introduced until 1964.
