If the word is spelled as you have it, "schilling" as opposed to "shilling", my guess is that it is from Austria. If so, it'll say something like "Republik Österreich". Unfortunately this was a common circulation coin, no longer in use following adoption of the euro, so it has very little collector value.

This was one of the most common denominations in Germany until adoption of the euro in 2002. At that time its face value was about US$0.50.

Today it's collectible only in higher grades: Regardless of mint mark, retail prices in very fine condition are about €1 ($1.35), €12.50 ($17.00) in XF, and €25.00 ($34) uncirculated.

You'll need to check a couple of things. 1967 was a transition year when 2 pf coins were made out of both copper and copper-plated steel. The majority were made of copper and do NOT stick to a magnet.

If your coin ISN'T magnetic, check above the large 2 for a mint mark letter. The most common mint marks are F and J; these coins sell for about a dime in average condition, $3 with only slight wear, and around $7 uncirculated. If it has a D or G mint mark, it's somewhat scarcer; values are around $3 in average condition, $7 lightly worn, and $11 uncirculated.

If your coin IS magnetic and has a G mint mark it is very scarce. You should have it examined by a trained expert who specializes in European Coins.

The coin's portrait shows the famous German physicist Max Planck. It's made of copper-nickel and was a fairly common circulation coin in Germany until adoption of the euro in 2002. At that time it was worth about $1. Marks aren't used today so it's primarily of interest to collectors.

DISCLAIMER: The values quoted are the best available, but may be significantly lower due to varying demand for the coin and the prevailing economic climate. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.

What is the value of an 1893 pfennig coin?

I assume the denomination is one pfennig and not something else; pfennig is the equivalent of penny so it appeared on all denominations less than 1 mark. Your coin's value depends very much on its mint mark. Retail prices as of 10/2008 A : $2 - $6 depending on condition D : $3.50 - $14 E,F : $14 - $35 G : $35 - $100 J : $22 - $50
