King Stove King Hardware purchased the Lizzie Loman Stove Works in Sheffield, Alabama in 1905. The foundry was renamed the King Stove & Range Company. They produced coal & wood heaters, stoves, and ranges. In 1917, the Martin brothers purchased the King Stove & Range Co. from King Hardware. King Stove & Range Co. then bought the Florence Stove Foundry in Florence, Alabama. They renamed the foundry in Florence the Martin Stove & Range Co. They expanded their line to include hollowware and sad irons. A lot of collectors believe that King Stove & Range hollow ware pieces were produced in the Martin Foundry. The Martin Stove & Range Company produced quite a bit of hollow ware. Collectors know of a few toys, and the standard items such as ovens, skillets, griddles, kettles, long pans, shallow skillets, ham boilers, sad irons, and gem pans. Many Martin pieces were not marked. Once a collector knows the traits of the Martin pieces they are able to pick out their pieces. It seems The Martin Stove & Range Company quit making hollow ware in 1953 except for a piece or two that seemed to be made for special uses. In 1973, Martin Stove & Range and other companies, which had been bought over the years, merged and became Martin Industries. Need information about a King pot belly Stove number S30 from Sheffield Alabama?
I have a king stove & range Co. pot belly stove model s30 I wanted some info on it and would like to use it in a shed for some heat. It dose not look like it has ever been used befor. The top where the stack would be looked like it was welded shut but it comes off and there is a screw hole in the center. I don't know what that is for. I have no booklet with it and would like to know more about the stove. Would it be better to burn wood or coal in it. If anyone could help me on this I would be so happy . Thanks

Surprisingly not very old..... I believe the King Stove And Range Co. Model 200 "Fatso" is anywhere between 20 to almost 40 years old. I own one, and looked up the info on the Internet several years ago (that info seems to have disappeared from the Internet). If I remember correctly production began sometime in the early 70's and ended in the late 80's to early 90's. It was designed by King stove and Range as a reproduction of a laundry stove. Laundry stoves were used back in the day before hot water heaters, and boilers. They would use this style stove with its broad flat top to heat up big kettles of water for laundry, and probably bathing.
