Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter. It may be blank or there may be a CC or an S. Also check whether the mint mark letter(s) appear above or below the bow of the wreath.

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 01/2011:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):

Very worn condition - $10

Moderately worn - $14

Slightly worn - $18

Almost no wear - $78

Uncirculated - $132 to $3,900 depending on quality

"CC" mint mark (Carson City) below the bow:

Very worn - $13

Moderately worn - $25

Slightly worn - $40

Almost no wear - $232

Uncirculated - $390 to $6,440

"CC" mint mark above the bow:

Very worn - $12

Moderately worn - $21

Slightly worn - $35

Almost no wear - $129

Uncirculated - $270 to $6,810

"S" mint mark (San Francisco) below the bow:

Very worn - $12

Moderately worn - $20

Slightly worn - $24

Almost no wear - $77

Uncirculated - $130 to $2,500

"S" mint mark above the bow:

Very worn - $14

Moderately worn - $31

Slightly worn - $38

Almost no wear - $100

Uncirculated - $180 to $3,060

DISCLAIMER: The retail values quoted are the best available as of the date shown, but may vary significantly due to changes in the precious metals market. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a coin will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.
