What is the value of value education in today's world?

The education system today has done more to destroy productivity and to remove a competitive spirit in people. This is especially true in the USA.

Most of the degrees today are worthless in terms of producing an economy that flourishes.

Engineers arepoorlyeducated compared to when I went to school. We were required to make functional devices and prove our competence. You cannot become a real engineer unless you actually make something that functions and follows the laws of physics.

Staring at a computer screen and making cad drawings all day takes engineers away from the physical world and makes them incompetent.

We had to serve anapprenticeshipunder the tutorship of real engineers who make aircraft, submarines, and space craft. I don't see that process being done today.

The graduate with no practical training is given a job and so you can see the results in the fact that the US is now #28 in science testing, number 25 in math, and there are a huge number of people who are functionally illiterate, can barely read or write in English.

We need to change this system, to produce competitiveness, and strength. It has been proven that some degree of creative stress is healthy for humans.

Also, we have to realize that humans are not getting more intelligent (see Gerald Crabtree link below) and expecting everyone to have the same level ofcompetencyis not rational.

Nonsense from politically driven agendas have taken over the education system, took out all incentives to excel, and ruined the curriculum with worthless ideology. The US educatoin system is nothing more than a sociaized form of indoctrinatoin that destroys creative thoughts and stops most scientific progress:

You can see that pouring money into a failed system doesn't work. The system needs to be changed.

We need competitive schools based on profits. If a school produces well educated free thinking creative people then it would besuccessful.

If their graduates produce products that people want to buy, help people, feed people, and stop diseases, then they are doing something of value.

With the present fall into a pit ofdelusionalnonsense beingtaught (and the teachers not even knowing this stuff is useless because they are just teachingwhatthey were taught and thinking it is good) there is no hope for this failed education system, no matter how much money you put in it.

Many of the "novel fields of study" have no value to humans at all. I mean how many people can you feed from the study of duck penises?

The need for education exists, as it has always done and always will do. One might argue that the need for education is increasing with the advent of new technologies, and novel fields of study. However, education systems today are poorly equipped to deal with the world of today. These systems are often founded on 19th century principles, and are ill suited to cope with the ever faster changes in a world that is growing more complex with every passing year. Although literacy is still increasing globally, new formats of education will have to take into account, for instance, the increasing tendency of (and need for!) people to externalize their memories, by storing their memories in our electronic environment but also by treating electronic information retrieval systems as if they were an extension of their memories. Authorities and others involved with shaping the format of our education realize this need for change. Unfortunately, they are at a loss as to the remedy, and their attempts to mend the situation often result in harm rather than improvement.
