In a permanent magnet motor, electricity is used to create an opposing magnetic field to the one existing due to the magnet. This creates a force that causes the motor to spin.
In a motor without a permanent magnet, electricity is used to create two opposing magnetic fields.

2) Induction Motor
3) Synchronous Motor.
All of these motors work under more or less the same principle. The Working of an electric motor mainly depends upon the interaction of magnetic field with current. Now we will discuss the basic operating principle of electric motor one by one for better understanding the subject.
The operation of an electric motor is based on the principle that when a current-carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field, it experiences a mechanical force whose direction is given by Fleming's Left-hand rule and whose magnitude is given by: Force,F = B I l newton

I is the current in amperes and
l is the length of the coil in meter.
The force, current and the magnetic field are all in different directions.

Some of the different types of electric motors include the following categories: DC, single phase AC, three phase AC, AC/DC universal, synchronous, asynchronous, induction, reluctance, stepper, servo, synchro, series connection, parallel connection, permanent magnet, commutated with brushes, self-commutated, brushless, linear, etc.
However regardless of the type they all operate internally by creating patterns of magnetic fields that repel and attract different parts of the rotor and the stator, causing the rotor to move.
