EDIT: Whether it's a Mac or PC is not the issue. I have a DELL and it's one of the fastest on the market. Why? Because most operating systems are installed with bloatware and priority process in order to get more money out of you. If you clean all that up to the absolute basics and install software that will make certain your computer's speed isn't compromised by defragmentation, erroneous registry entries, and the load of viruses we get every single day just for doing basic tasks, then you're fine. In order to properly answer the question, there needs to be more information and 'computer' needs to be clearly defined (so computer will be defined as something with memory and that's programmable) but to answer the question the way it was formed:
