Truly believing in God is when you ask God to forgive you of your sins and turn away from your sins. You recognize that He is Lord of all, and you ask Him to come into your heart. Beyond that, it is fully surrendering everything to Him.
God will bring you joy, peace, and comfort even through the trials.

Truly believing in God is going to confession regularly and receiving His Body and Blood in Holy Communion: the entire sixth chapter of St. John Gospel, most especially John 6:22-71. If you truly believe in God, you love your brothers and sisters more than yourself, and you feed them, give them to drink, visit them in prison, and care for them when they are ill: Matthew 25:31-46. If you truly love Our Blessed Lord you will fast, pray, and give alms - Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18.
Read St. Matthew 7:21 and following: Not ever one who say to me, 'Lord, Lord', shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven....
Every one then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise men... Matthew 7:24
Finally, read the letter of St. James especially chapter 2: if you have faith without works, then it is a dead faith and will condemn you to hell. I guarantee that the devils in hell believe in God a LOT more than you or I ever will, but it does them no good. James 2:24: "You see that a man is justified by works and NOT by faith alone."

You wouldn't reject God if you were believing in Him. If you were truly believing in Him, you wouldn't reject Him at all, if you did, you would go to Hell because you weren't actually believing in Him fully.
