winter is the season of cleansing

winter is a season when it gets colder compared to summer, its also the time when Christmas is celebrated

(Christmas is celebrated on December 25 which is midsummer in the Southern Hemisphere.)

Why do we have seasons? You might want to try to draw a diagram or something while reading this:

The earth is spinning on its axis. It turns round once a day; this causes day and night, since any given point on the earth is sometimes but not always in shadow. In addition, the earth is rotating around the sun. It goes round once a year. The earth's axis of rotation always points in the same direction, which is not quite perpendicular to the plane of the earth's orbit around the sun. In fact it's out by 23.5 degrees. Furthermore the axis always goes through the same part of the earth (on a human timescale at least).

Now imagine you are in the northern hemisphere in July. The axis is tilted so that the northern end (your end) is pointing towards the sun. This means you get more hours of daylight per 24-hour period than you normally do. Furthermore, when it is daylight, the sun is higher in the sky, which means the sunlight is more concentrated. These factors mean the weather is hotter than usual.

But by January the earth has moved round to the other side of the sun. The earth's axis is still pointing in the same direction, but it is now pointing away from the sun. This means less daylight hours, and the sun is lower in the sky. Hence colder weather.
