Your telephone country code is a one-, two-, or three-digit number identifying the country, group of countries, or overseas territory, associated with your telephone number. For example, telephone country code +1 serves 20 countries in North America, including the USA, Canada, and 18 island countries and territories in or near the Caribbean. Telephone country code +353 is the Republic of Ireland, +98 is Iran, and +81 is Japan.
Note that telephone country codes never begin with 0. If you see something like 00265, the person who wrote it included the international dialing prefix, which can be confusing, since different countries use different prefixes for outbound international calls.
Internet addresses may also have country codes, which are two letters at the end of a URL or e-mail address. For example, .au is Australia, .ch is Switzerland, and .ve is Venezuela.
There are over 200 telephone country codes. Country code +1 is North America, including the USA, Canada, and certain nearby island countries and territories. Country code +7 is Russia and Kazakhstan. All other country codes are two or three digits. Country codes never begin with zero.
