Hornworms, tobacco budworms, and tomato budworms and fruitworms are the types of caterpillars that eat tomatoes. The feeding behavior is so intense that all four of the above-mentioned lepidopteran larvae warrant insect pest status. The same may not be said of the adult stages as moths.
