A rheumatologist is a good place to start--he/she can run a battery of blood test that (supposedly) can ID or rule out such autoimmune disorders as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

Physician Specialties with a focus that includes the immune system in the US:

The physician specialty areas that would usually have at least a partial focus on the immune system include:

  • Infectious Disease,
  • Allergy and Immunology,
  • Oncology and Hematology, and
  • Rheumatology.

Some Internal Medicine specialists and Family Medicine practitioners also may have an interest and specialize in treating immune system diseases, such as HIV and AIDS. And they, and Pediatricians schedule and give vaccinations which utilize the immune system to help prevent diseases and infections.

Any licensed doctor can also treat the immune system, though, they do so any time they treat even a minor infection, like flu viruses, many childhood diseases, and bacterial infections (e.g., urinary tract infection, tonsillitis, infected wound, etc.).
