∙ 10y agoAfter gastric bypass surgery, the stomach is drastically reduced in size, often to the size of a tennis ball or large egg. This surgery is dangerous for many reasons. First, its patients are large enough for general anesthesia to be dangerous, all other concerns aside. The stats on residual internal bleeding are played down in popular reporting. Foods must be consumed in small quantities and must be soft or at least chewed/broken up often to a granular level. This means that steak is pretty much out. It's ground beef from now on. Foods high in acid (tomato-based foods and sauces, etc ...) are to be avoided. Regular sized meals are replaced with nearly constant grazing. (Think of it as a food "drip.") Also, Carbonated Beverages are no longer tolerated by the body. Compulsive eaters run a high risk, due to the addict's defining characteristic of being unable to stop a behavior by simply being told that it will harm them.
