Best Answer

It is a gas, assuming you are talking about dry steam. If it is wet steam, it is both a gas and a liquid.

How do you explain the three states of matter to children?

Use this simple thing.... Take a glass of water and keep it your fridge.... After a few minutes, take it out and show it to them and say that they have arranged themselves very closely due to cold condition, like we like being close to others to share the warmth... Now heat it, take the beaker near your window sill (with care) and show them the vapor.... Tell them that they turned into vapor state as it was hot and have thus spread out due to the hot temperature.... That's it.... :) Take an ice cube, it is a solid state of matter. Melt this, it will be converted to water, it will be the liquid state of matter. Then boil this water, steam will appear, this steam will be the gaseous state of matter. In this way, we can explain the three state of matters, 1st is ice(solid state), 2nd is water(liquid state) and the 3rd is steam(gas) state.

What are the 3 state of matters?

solid, liquid and gas A good example is water: ice, water and steam

How water in the boiling kettle turns into steam and turns back into water again?

first its the heat boils the water then if you turn off the heat it starts cooling down that's what happensAnother AnswerAll matter exists in one of three states; Solid, Liquid, or Gas. Steam is waters' gaseous state. Steam is invisible. The cloudy puffs you see is water condensing back into liquid state. The steam is condensing because it is cooler out in the ambient air.

How do heating and cooling cause physical changes in matter?

Heating and cooling change the state of the matter. For example, at room temperature water is a liquid but if you heated it becomes steam; a gas. If you freeze it it becomes ice; a solid. Hope it helps xx

What is ammonias state of matter?

ammonias state of matter is a liquid.

What type of matter is steam?

Yes, steam is matter. It's considered a liquid AND a gas. When it's more than one state of matter, it is considered being in a "colloidal state".

What state of matter is steam?

Water vapour, or steam, is water in its gaseous form.

What happens to steam at 105 degrees Celsius?

at 105 degreesCelsius, steam is still steam.at about 50,000 degrees Celsius, steam turns into plasma, the fourth state of matter.

What is the state of matter for apple juice and bread and a textbook and steam?

Apple juice is a liquid, bread is a solid, a textbook is a solid, and steam is a gas

Is steam a form of precipitation?

snow, sleet, hail, rain, ect. are forms of precipitation. steam could be considered evaporation, or a change in state of matter (water heated to steam)

If you heated a gas would you get steam?

Steam is a gas. Actually, if you heat a gas, you will get the fourth state of matter-plasma. Plasma is a SUPER hot gas.

How does matter change from one state to a other?

Matter changes state via the addition or subtraction of thermal energy. For instance, Ice melts into water, water boils into steam.

Which state of matter is characterized by having molecules far apart and moving randomly?

The state of matter in which molecules are generally far apart and moving randomly is known as the gaseous state. Steam is an example of a gas.

What kind of water is a steam?

Steam is water in the vapour (gaseous) state; Ice is water in the solid state; liquid water is water in its liquid state - but the water's composition is the same in all three states.

The state of matter in which water molecules are most energetic?

Water as steam in the gas state has the most energy compared to water in the liquid or solid state.

Is production of steam a chemical or physical change?

The change from liquid water to steam is a physical change in the state of matter. Evaporation is the term for a liquid becoming a gas.

Is steam a matter?

Yes, true steam (you cannot see it) is matter in the gas form.
