No type of wood kills vampires. It is a popular misconception that a wooden stake (usually oak) through the heart kills vampires. This is not true. The purpose of the stake is to merely pin the vampire down in its coffin/grave so it can't get out anymore. The vampire is still un-dead and capable of everything it can do, it is just that it is stuck in the grave. The suggestion that the vampire was destroyed was perhaps a 'kind suggestion' in considering the alternative of what is actually going on.
The same is true about dismembering. In a few rare instances certain powerful sorcerer/vampires have been able to re-assemble their dismembered bodies.
