We have deer, antelope, coyotes, jack rabbits, squirrels, prairie dogs, possums, raccoons, skunks and all sorts of mice and other small rodents. You may find an armadillo or two in the very southern part of the state. There are game birds (turkey, pheasants, ducks, geese, quail, dove, prairie chicken), a variety of song birds (meadowlark, finch, sparrows, cardinals, bluejays, swallows, pigeons), and lots of carrion (bald eagles, hawks, owls, crows, black birds, starlings). Several varieties of frogs, turtles, and lizards as well as snakes ranging from itty-bitty garter snakes to 8-foot prairie rattlesnakes. You can fish for crappie, walleye, channel cats, bullheads, paddlefish, and carp. The Dept of Fish and Game says we don't have any mountain lions, but several people will swear they have seen one. We have a few bobcats around and a few years ago there was a moosewandering around the northwest part of the state.
