There is no single answer to this question unless you say more about what you mean by "best"; do you mean the best possible quality, the lightest, the biggest range, widest or… longest or best value?. Having said all that(!), I'd suggest the single most useful lens is the 18-200mm - it covers most common application and has a large zoom range.
ED has nothing to do with the camera mount; it is a lens (glass) quality so yes, it will fit
Yes, but they won't act the same on a D40 as more expensive Nikons. Only AF, AF-D, AF-S, and G lenses will meter on a D40 and ony AF-S and G lenses will auto focus on a D40.
Yes but older AF lenses that do not have an autofocus motor in them will not autofocus with the D5000.
Nikon F mount (with AF coupling and AF contacts)
and nikon camera can use a nikon lens, try a D3000, a D50, or a D9
You could purchase Nikon camera lenses from many places. If you are looking for a brick and mortar store, check out your local Best Buy, Sears, or Ritz Camera.
Nikon Camera lenses can be purchased at Best Buy, Value City Electronics, or any local camera store. You can probably find even better deals online at places such as Ebay and …Craigslist.
Yes, pre AI lenses may cause damage though
Read the user guide
Yes as long as it's not pre AI
Most Nikon lens will work in complete manual mode, but to get the most from the lens (auto-focus, metering) stick to Nikkor lenses with AF or G in the title. Full comparabi…lity chart in the related links below.
If the lens was made later than 1959 it will have the "F" mount and it should fit any modern Nikon DSLR, although the auto-focus may not work and you will have to focus manual…ly.
The Nikon D50 digital camera costs $1899.66 at Amazon. Yahoo sell it for much less at $599, eBay sell it the same price as Yahoo, but body only without lens.
Nikon specifically states that the D50 can only accommodate up to a2GB SD card. However, some users find they can use the 4GB cardwith their D50s (see Resources). Although not… guaranteed, use onlySDSC and not SDHC (High-Capacity) cards.
