He wanted to create a great information content site that could answer questions about anything.
The overall Answers.com site evolved in several stages over a few years.
First came a reference product, now known as ReferenceAnswers.com, which was launched under the name Answers.com in January 2005. It contains 250 licensed editorial encyclopedias and dictionaries on everything from astronomy to zoology, from publishers like Britannica, Oxford, Columbia University, Gale, Houghton-Mifflin, and, of course, Wikipedia. It is ad-supported and free to the user.
In November 2006, the company bought a user-generated Q&A site called FAQ-Farm (Frequently Asked Questions) from its creator, Chris Whitten, and relaunched the site in April 2007 as WikiAnswers.
The sites were integrated and the overall site is called Answers.com.
