You'll have to check your individual college's curriculum, (for example the fine universities listed in the related links) but in general you'll have to take calculus, physics, and chemistry. Then you'll take some courses in physical and dynamic meteorology, climate, boundary layer, and perhaps a few electives like tropics.

Answer

It would depend on the country, but in Australia meteorologists generally have a science degree majoring in maths and physics (fluid dynamics and the like) and then do a postgraduate diploma in meteorology.

There are a number of universities which offer a four-year degree in meteorology. Often, these courses are from the Dept. of Environmental and Biological Sciences, and you would need an interest in science in order to be successful. A student would take such courses as Climatology; Geography; Chemistry; Oceanography; Environmental Studies; and of course, different levels of meteorology, in which you would study storms, hurricanes, tides, extremes of weather, how to calculate and predict what the weather will be, etc. I enclose a link to the program at Rutgers University, one of the schools with a well-respected meteorology degree.

Meteorology or atmospheric science (essentially the same, just given different names by different schools). Meteorology is a fairly specific discipline so it's not as if you can major in chemistry and expect to be able to be trained to become a meteorologist. There are several pretty standard courses you need to have specific to meteorology, such as atmospheric dynamics, radar and satellite remote sensing, physical meteorology, synoptic meteorology, and hydrology. Either a school has it or they don't.

In general, you need a very strong background in math and physics, and it helps to be good with computers (be able to learn complicated software packages and be able to program).

Get proficient in maths and physics, I.T helps a lot as well. Geography and environmental science are other options but maths and physics are the main two that you need.
