What makes country music special?

By definition, lyrics. If there are no words to sing, it isn't a song. If it is music only, it is generically called a "piece", or perhaps a "melody", but it has to have lyrics to be a "song".

The only exception are short musical pieces some composers (Mendelssohn, for example) called "songs without words". But when someone is listening to a piece like Pachelbel's "Canon in D", for example, and says "I love that song!" it sets my teeth on edge. Songs have words.

Well there are several different ways of knowing if the song is a country song.

1.The type of instruments such as Acoustic Guitar, Banjo, ect.

2.Type of voice the sing is using, a country singers voice is noticeably different than other singers voices.

3. And lastly what the song is about, the reason I say this is that some country songs are about death, but they are a variety of different types of country songs

To me it's how everything is so down to earth. The things they sing about are the things we think and talk about. Also I just like the accent.
