IT is cold because the sunlight it receives is very indirect. This radiation has to go through a larger part of the atmosphere, so more of it is absorbed. The earth is heated by these rays, so the Arctic is unable to get very warm.

It's located in valley surronded by mountains. Cold air is heavy, and keeps flowing in like a waterfall. Making it a freezer.
