Student flutes are usually made of Nickel plated Copper or something to that extent. Professional flutes, such as open hole flutes, are usually made of sterling silver or gold. It is also quite common for flutes to be silver plated and not thoroughly sterling silver. It is also common to have just the mouth pieces made of gold while the body and foot joint are silver.

Flutes are normally made out of metal, but some that are used in Renaissance groups may be made of wood. The majority of metal flutes are made of silver, or gold-coated copper. The best-sounding flutes are made out of solid gold. The denser the metal, the better the sound it makes.

Flutes can actually be made of anything..in the old times ppl used to make flutes aout of bamboo, wood, carved out animal holes or hollowed out sticks. modern flutes are usually made of steel, or silver ..there are very expensive flutes that are actually made up of gold.

Most are made of brass, plated with nickel silver. Better instruments may be plated with sterling sliver and some really fine instruments (costing thousands of dollars) have bodies made entirely of sterling sliver. Flutes have also been made of gold and platinum.
