Some modern day "Romeo And Juliets" are plays, movies or books like "West Side Story". This is a modern day story of forbidden love and death. Really, any story that is about forbidden love and even killing yourself because your lover is dead would be an example of "Romeo and Juliet". if you want to make it modern then just put the story in a scene like outer space, a club, or something that is modern.

Romeo And Juliet has inspired many love stories since it was written about four hundred years ago. The movie West Side Story was based on the play Romeo And Juliet by William Shakespeare. There was a movie that was first shown in 1968 that follows the play word for word. Romeo And Juliet has been a popular theme included in the plots of many books and movies.

Juliet pretends to be dead. Romeo kills Paris who witnessed him coming to the grave of Juliet. Romeo drinks poison believing that his Juliet was dead. On waking up Juliet finds the corpse of Romeo. She kisses him and drinks the poison left on his lips. She dies. After their death the friar reveals what really was the cause of their such actions. at last the Capulets and the Montagues become friends.

That's pretty close to the play. How about this? Paris kills Romeo in the fight then enters the tomb to see if Romeo has desecrated it. To his amazement he finds that Juliet is waking up. He welcomes her and brags about how he has killed Romeo. Juliet, horrified, snatches a dagger from Tybalt's nearby corpse and stabs the astounded Paris. She then finds the corpse of Romeo and stabs herself over it.

Here's a happy ending. Friar Lawrence, to assuage Juliet's fears, agrees to sit with her body in the monument while waiting for her to wake up. He sends Paris home so Romeo doesn't fight him. Romeo arrives and finds out that Juliet is not dead, so that after she wakes up, they move into a nice little bungalow in Mantua and have five kids.

Here's another happy ending. Juliet laughs at the friar's ridiculous suggestion about faking her death. Instead, she disguises herself as a boy and walks to Mantua with the friar. (Girls successfully disguised themselves as boys in about five Shakespearean comedies)

Everyone wears modern clothing. The setting is modern California. Every time they say "sword" it's a gun. The music and dancing at the party is modern. Mercutio hands Romeo drugs before going to the party. The party invitations are delivered by television broadcast. The Prince is a cop. Friar John is FedEx. Luhrman gives people like Capulet and Montague given names. Their names are shown on billboards on office buildings in "Verona Beach".

Actually, though, all of this is superficial. Because the dialogue stays the same, the heart of the story stays the same.
