Many victims of lightning strikes die from burns and heart failure, and non-fatal strikes have been known to cause moderate to severe damage to the central nervous system. Many victims with neural damage report severe and intractable pain and neuropathy for the rest of their lives.

This question is not very clear. Since a bolt of lightning carries enough energy to cause severe harm or death no matter what part of the body it hits, I don't think it's possible to select any one anatomical feature that might be more susceptible than any other. The heart and the brain. This is due to the fact that our body works on small electrical impulses. One cell or neuron fires and makes a chain reaction throught the body. Lightning is nothing more than large amounts of volts and ampheres. It takes .5 amphers to stop the heart, or start it. Since the brain works on small electrical volts as well, it can cause small strokes. Lightning is searching for a ground. Meaning a place to disperse its energy. Your body is not a ground, but the ground beneath you is. I have witnessed a lightning strike where there wasnt a cloud in the sky and it hit the ground at a Golf tournement and 80 people hit the ground. One girl had her shoes blown off and the "S" on her bra burnt into her skin because it was so hot. When lightning passes through the body, it can pass with no effect or it can burn a path to which it passes. This can burn bones and major arteries like the femorl artery and can pass through with no damage or burn it to a crisp. If this voltage (sometimes up to 10 million volts) passes through the heart it can cause heart failure or major strokes in the brain. The same thing can happen with electrocution as well.

Well anywhere on your body that you get hit, it will send the pulse through your whole body. If it somehow only hits your fingernail (a bit of lightning) it wont hurt at all, same with your hair.

So probably your Hair or Fingernail.

The heart and the nervous system (brain, spinal cord, etc.). Lightning usually kills because it shorts out the hearts electrical system and damages the heart muscle.

What happens when lighting strikes while your in the air..Example if you were to jump before the lighting struck your body. Would you get less of a shock since you are not grounded?

If the lightning strikes you and the ground, your body would indeed be grounded. The arc of electricity from you to the ground is just as deadly, and your body would be a conductor.

What happens if you get shot by lightning?

If someone is struck by lightning, they can experience a range of injuries, including burns, cardiac arrest, neurological damage, and organ damage. This can depend on factors such as the intensity of the lightning strike and where it makes contact with the body. Immediate medical attention is crucial, as lightning strikes can be fatal or result in long-term complications if not treated promptly.

What are the effects does a lightning strike have on the body?

Lots. One strike once killed over 50 cows on a farm.Well, for one thing it can electricute you... Plus if it strikes a tree that tree could fall on a house, which could fall on someone, who could be severely injured for life, which could send that person's loved one iknto a depression.

If lightning strikes your car what happens?

Basically... nothing! You will hear of course a verry big noise, you will see a intense violet light. Possibly you will feel smell of ozone. The lightning will discharge itself through the car's metall body in the ground, and due to the Faraday effect it will not break into the car. It's possible that one or more tires will burst. Keep the windows closed!!! All this is not valable anymore if you are travelling in a soft top car. You will be possibly dead after a lightning strike! ---------------------------------- It can very well blow out the electronics in the car regardless of the rubber tites. I have seen several cases of this happening.

Do people who have been struck by lightning carry an electrical charge and can they be touched?

People who have been struck by Lightning does not carry a residual charge. Lightning goes straight through the body and into the ground. There would be no electrical charge left and they would be safe to touch.

What happens when light strikes a transparent body like glass?

Whether the object struck by lightning is transparent or not should not make much difference.

Why a person safe from lightning inside a car that has a metal body?

A person is safe from lightning inside a car with a metal body because the metal acts as a Faraday cage. When lightning strikes the car, the metal body acts as a conductor, directing the electrical current around the occupants and safely into the ground, protecting them from electrocution.

Should you swim in an indoor pool when it is lightning?

Although it might seem that the pool is "ground" when lightning strikes, the electrical current from the strike itself is not limited to exactly the spot where the bolt strikes. Because there is resistance in the water and in the ground, there is a large voltage difference between the spot where the bolt strikes and to areas tens of feet away. If your body is within this zone, a voltage differential is built up across your body and a large electrical current can pass through you causing pain, burns, or death.

If lightning strikes the human body would cause a loss of memory?

It is possible for a patient to experience memory loss due to a lightning strike. A couple of sources: http://www.harkphoto.com/light.html http://www.cofc.edu/~sessomse/252/When%20lightning%20strikes%20people.htm

Why and how lightning struck?

Lightning strikes by trying to earth it's current. It's made by positive and negative ions. An example would be a battery. Let's say you were changing the battery for a toy car and you electrocute yourself. It happens by traveling down your body to the ground. Lightning acts the same but it's a higher voltage
