The requirements may vary depending on the country. Generally, an applicant needs to have graduated from high school and have a bachelor's degree, and be able to pass the entrance exams for law school at a University. And then there is a 3 course of study to obtain a law degree. Being called to "the Bar " means that a person is now a fully qualified lawyer, able to practice law in their jurisdiction.
A bachelor's degree, then go to law school for about 3 years (if you attend full-time)..then pass the bar.
You need a law degree in most states and then you need a license to practice law. The only 'training' in most places is what you get on the job.
Until one of our lawyer contributors improves this answer, I submit the following. First, a Degree in Law from an institution of higher learning, and second, pass a State Bar examination in the state in which one wants to practice.
There are a variety of the qualification paths in the UK to become either a barrister or a solicitor. A popular path is to achieve A-levels in all your subjects. Step two is to get your law degree. Step three is to take the LPC or Legal Practice Course. This can be taken at the same time as the law degree. Last step along this path would be to work in a solicitor's office (similar to an internship) for two years, Once this has been done and you've tested, you can become a solicitor.
